An All-Glass iPhone Could Be In The Works For Apple

It seems that a future iPhone iteration could sport an all-glass enclosure if reports by famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities is of any indication.

In a note to investors, that was obtained by AppleInsider, Kuo mentioned that Apple may adopt a glass back for its iPhone to differentiate itself from competitors that are using aluminum casings for its smartphones. It also states that Apple will use a new curved AMOLED display instead of the current LCD technology used by iPhone since 2007.

iPhone All Glass

Unfortunately, don’t expect to see it anytime soon as it seems that the plan for this new design is set for 2017. The year of the iPhone’s tenth anniversary.

Of course, this makes sense for Apple to release the new design next year as 2016 will see the release of the iPhone 7 with its purported omission of a headphone jack.

iPhone 4 Glass Body

Apple had previously dabbled with glass body with the iPhone 4 and 4s but had met with issues due to the fragile nature of a glass body. Yet Kua claims that, with the advancement of glass technology, the all-glass iPhone won’t suffer the same fate as its predecessor.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting a glimpse of Apple’s new design anytime soon. For now, we’ll just have to make do with the iPhone 7 and iPhone SE.
