Be A Wizard In Space With The Technomancer

Developed by Spiders (the game developer, not arachnids), The Technomancer is an action role-playing-game set in a dystopian future on Mars. The game is a follow-up of sorts from Spiders’ previous game, Mars: War Logs.

During E3, press were given a five minute gameplay demo that shows off the game mechanics, designs, and visuals. The game is definitely in Pre-Alpha as dialog was non-existent and certain animation looks slightly awkward. What works though, is the combat.

Shown prominently during the gameplay demo, The Technomancer sees the protagonist, a guy with a trendy hairdo, wield an electro-baton/staff and using powers that’s similar to Starkiller from Force Unleashed. Despite being a Pre-Alpha footage, the combat smoothly transitions different stances, from a staff (area attacks), to a knife and pistol (stab and retreat), and a mace and shield (tank). Though how the controls actually works in unknown as the demo was not hands-on.

Developer Spiders wanted gamers to have options when it comes to play styles and character builds, that’s why stealth will be a viable option when given the opportunity. However you choose to approach the situation, all these will add to the skill tree for the stances and the technomancer abilities.

Following modern action RPG styles that’s revolutionized by BioWare, The Technomancer follows the checklist by including the following RPG tropes: companions, factions, crafting, and non-linear questing. You can build up your reputation with the companions and aligning yourself with certain factions that can affect future quests.

Taking into account fan feedback when developing The Technomancer. Spiders will make The Technomancer look and feel like a Spiders game so fans can expect the same quality as their previous games. The gameplay demo doesn’t give much information about the story, instead it showed a brief prologue area, an early plot twist, and a monstrous boss battle (inspired by a monster from Bound by Flame). The game is still long ways from finished but, what little we’ve seen so far is interesting nonetheless.

The Technomancer is scheduled for a 2016 release. It is set to come on the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
