EA Has Stopped Giving Games Out For Free

Game publisher Electronic Arts has retired its ‘On The House’ giveaway program and games will no longer be offered for free.

The company did not make any official announcement previously and opted for a subtle approach by redirecting the ‘On The House’ link to the Origin Access page. After the changes was made known to the public via Reddit, EA’s representative provided a response to PC Gamer and issued a statement about it:

Origin On the House has been retired and games will no longer be offered through the program. This change won’t affect any games players downloaded from the service prior to that date—those are theirs to keep forever.

It is quite likely that the shift comes after EA announced the launch date for Origin Access Premier, a subscription service like Xbox’s Game Pass, which lets users play a huge library of games for free as long their subscription is active. EA’s service starts next week and it will cost $14.99 per month or $99 for a year. The Origin Access Premier enables users to play all of EA’s games a couple of days earlier than the official launch and with no constraints, including upcoming titles like Battlefield 5 and even Anthem.
