Fallout 4 Mods That PC Gamers Shouldn’t Miss Out

When ti comes to mods, Fallout Games are no strangers to the modding community. Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas saw its fair of modding that ranges from the expected (God mode, infinite caps, infinite ammo) to the weird (Batman Mod). Now, with Fallout 4 out in the open for the last few weeks, we’ve scrounged up some of the best mods so far.

Beasts Are Your Best Friends

Fallout 4 allows you to recruit companions to follow you on your journey in the wasteland. While some characters are fun to bring along (Codsworth’s sardonic humor is always good company), you’re usually stuck with the same motley crew. Well, BOTLANNER have created a mod that lets you replace your followers with creatures from the game.

Fallout 4 Creature Follower

BOTLANNER describes the mod as follows:

“You can have either a deathclaw, yao guai, gen1synth, gen2synth, cat, mutant hound, super mutant behemoth, raider dog, gorilla, radscorpion or a vicious dog. They have full follower features excluding the relationship chat. They do not take up the follower slot so you can technically have two followers with this.”

If you ever wanted to have a deathclaw follow you around and help deal punishment to other baddies, you finally get to do it with BOTLANNER’s mod. Unfortunately, while cats can be used as a follower, they can’t enter combat in the game.

Know Your Dialog Lines

One of the biggest changes that came to Fallout 4 was the inclusion of a voiced protagonist. With that, Bethesda changed the word heavy response dialog and instead replaced it with simple one-word/two-words response such as “HOLD ON” or “SARCASTIC”. When a response is chosen, the protagonist will expand on the dialog. Unfortunately, this meant not knowing what the line will be and often times, players ended up choosing a respond that wasn’t what they expected.

Modders Shadwawr and Cirosan decided to build a tool that help players see the actual dialog lines by replacing the entire conversation interface.

With the mod, instead of a single word/short sentence response, players will get to see what they will actually say. Handy for avoiding a response that ends up with an awkward joke (unless that’s what you intended). The omission of the dialog lines had been perceived as a miss by old-school Fallout fans, which is why the mod comes as a boon to PC players.

The Baby Goes Boom

As it is with mods for Fallout, there’s bound to be a weird mod here or there. Well, we’ve officially got the first weirdly fun mod from Fallout 4 that lets you change the mini nuke shell from a Fat Man, with something a little more personal.

Fallout 4 Baby Nuke

Yep, you can launch your baby off a Fat Man with the Atom Bomb Baby mod by Trainwiz. As to how this idea came about, here’s the description from Trainwiz’s mod page:

“Have you ever sat and thought, ‘man, I want to launch my baby out of catapult?’ I know I have. In retrospect, this is why my wife left me. Anyway, this mod replaces the mininukes fired by the Fat Man (or Nuka-Launcher if Bethesda is afraid of you), with a baby. Your baby. Guess you found him.”

Of course, just the image of the mod doesn’t do it justice. Here’s a video of the mod in all its glory:

The modding scene for Fallout 4 is still in its infancy stage, so expect more mods to crop up as time goes by. Hopefully someone can get on that Fallout-meets-The-Walking-Dead mod that Paul Tessi at Forbes suggested. Until then, players will just have to make do with the crop of mods available for PC right now.
