First Picture of Scarlett Johansson In Ghost In The Shell Has Surfaced

Masamune Shirow’s thought-provoking post-cyberpunk manga and anime series Ghost in the Shell is currently in production, which means we finally got our first look at Scarlett Johansson as the main protagonist.

Take it in folks, here’s your Major Motoko Kusanagi.

Ghost in the Shell Scarlett Johansson

Despite sporting the same hairstyle as “the Major” in the movie, fans are probably still upset with the cast of Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi, Mainly because she’s Japanese in all other adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. Fans were hoping for the studio to hire an Asian actor to portray the character instead of “white-washing” it.

Nevertheless, it’s only been one picture and we don’t know how good of a job director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and The Huntsman) will do translating Masamune Shirow’s complex and dark themes into the big screen.
At least she’s sporting the same hair. Right?
