Game of Thrones Season 7 Announced For A Summer 2017 Premiere

Winter has arrived in Game of Thrones but the Season 7 of George R.R. Martin’s epic medieval fantasy will premiere in Summer 2017 on HBO instead.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Lannisters

The new premiere date marks a big change from HBO’s tradition of returning the show during spring (around April) with filming scheduled to start in the summer as well.

“Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual when the weather is charging,” comments HBO’s president of programming, Casey Bloys. “Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”

Game of Thrones Season 7 Sansa

Another big change for season 7 is that it will be a lot shorter with only 7 episodes instead of the usual 10. Given the huge events that happened in the finale of Season 6, it’s safe to say that Game of Thrones is nearing the end and a shorter and focused season will be the norm moving forward, as showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss has planned to.cap the series at 73 hours with season 8 expected to be only six episodes.

Game of Thrones Season 7 will premiere on HBO in Summer 2017. Will you tune to watch the premiere? Let us know in the comments!
