Google and Ubisoft Released Agones Multiplayer Server

Google has announced the launching of Agones, a brand new open-source project built using the cloud based Kubernetes platform to provide developers with much more flexibility and freedom when conducting multiplayer games.

In collaboration with Ubisoft, Agones is currently under development and it is designed as a dedicated game server which uses Kubernetes to substitute cluster management and game server scaling using a Kubernetes cluster.

With Agones, Kubernetes gets native abilities to make, run, handle and scale dedicated game server processes within Kubernetes clusters utilizing regular Kubernetes tooling and APIs.

This model also enables any matchmaker to interact directly with Agones through the Kubernetes API to provision a dedicated game server. Agones remains in its early stages, although interested developers can read about and take a look at the depository on GitHub.
