Lionel Messi Retires From International Football After Argentina’s Defeat

After suffering a loss from Chile again in the Copa America finals for the second year in a row, Argentinian forward superstar Lionel Messi announces his retirement from International football at 29 years old.

“It’s not meant for me. For me, the national team is over. I’ve done all I can. It hurts not to be a champion.” states the Argentina captain in an interview after a loss to Chile.

In a penalty shootout, Messi missed his shot leaving Chile to pick up the win by 4-2. The loss comes as another blow to the Ballon d’Or winner after a defeat to Germany during the 2014 World Cup Finals.

“It’s been four finals, I tried. It was the thing I wanted the most, but I couldn’t get it, so I think it’s over.” Messi said. Ever since his international debut in 2005, Messi has capped 113 appearances as well as being the country’s top scorer with 55 goals.
