Full Metal Alchemist Cast

Directing the film will be Ping Pong helmer Fumihiko Sori. For adapting the source material, Sori states, “I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country.”

Since the manga/anime was set in a European background with characters that are distinctly European, the all Japanese casting has left fans a bit wary, after the disappointment of the Attack On Titan live-action movies.

One particular omission from the casting news is Alphonse, the brother to Edward Elric who’s soul is stuck inside a suit of armor. Sori mentioned that Alphonse will be in the movie and fans will be “satisfied” with his portrayal.

Full Metal Alchemist is targeted for a winter 2017 release in Japan. No word on an international release.
