Meet The Cast For The Upcoming Live-Action Full Metal Alchemist Movie

Another big anime/manga franchise will be making its live-action debut and the cast has been revealed. Full Metal Alchemist will see its feature film release on winter 2017 with filming to begin in June.

The cast will include Ryosuke Hamada (of Jpop band Hey! Say! JUMP fame) as Edward Elric, Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell, Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang. The rest of the cast are as follows:

- Fumiyo Kohinata as General Hakuro
– Ryuta Sato as Maes Hughes
– Misako Renbutsu as Riza Hawkeye
– Natsuna as Maria Ross
– Natsuki Harada as Gracia Hughes
– Yo Oizumi as Shou Tucker
– Jun Kunimura as Doctor Marco
– Yasuko Matsuyuki as Lust
– Kanata Hongou as Envy
– Shinji Uchiyama as Gluttony
– Kenjiro ishimaru as Father Cornello

Full Metal Alchemist Cast

Directing the film will be Ping Pong helmer Fumihiko Sori. For adapting the source material, Sori states, “I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country.”

Since the manga/anime was set in a European background with characters that are distinctly European, the all Japanese casting has left fans a bit wary, after the disappointment of the Attack On Titan live-action movies.

One particular omission from the casting news is Alphonse, the brother to Edward Elric who’s soul is stuck inside a suit of armor. Sori mentioned that Alphonse will be in the movie and fans will be “satisfied” with his portrayal.

Full Metal Alchemist is targeted for a winter 2017 release in Japan. No word on an international release.
