Modders Are Gonna Have A Field-Day With DOOM’s SnapMap Editor

When DOOM was officially shown during Bethesda’s E3 conference, not were fans treated to the visceral gameplay that the series is known for, modders were also given a little treat with the unveiling of SnapMap, DOOM’s very own mod tool that’s coming to both PC and consoles (which is normally unheard of).

The new SnapMap gives players a lot of customizability to the game which includes creating custom single player missions, multiplayer maps and so much more. Not only that, the deep customizability of the mod engine allows for tinkering with the minute details of the game such as the AI behaviour, spawn times, and even enemy pathing.

It is a trend nowadays to include some sort of map editor with recent games. But usually it’s just a lite-version of a map editor (inFamous 2 map editors) or just a sandbox creation mode (GTA map editors). The DOOM SnapMap though really gives players a flexible tool in unleashing their creativity with modding the game.

Recently, Bethesda released a video detailing the function of the SnapMap engine. Check it out below:

With the amount of freedom that Bethesda is giving to players with the SnapMap editor, it will be exciting to see what sort of creative and custom content that players will be making with the tools at hand. For a good indicator of how creative fans can get, just look at Super Mario Maker and be marveled by the creativity at hand when it comes with an awesome tool with no bounds.

DOOM is scheduled for a 2016 release and will come to Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. All platforms will come with the DOOM SnapMap editor which is Bethesda’s in-game mod engine for DOOM.
