Nintendo’s Smash Bros Direct Brings New Brawlers To The Mix

Back in November’s Nintendo Direct, Super Smash Bros. dropped a huge inclusion to its roster with Cloud Strife, the angsty spiked-hair hero of Final Fantasy 7, Now, with the Super Smash Bros. Direct finished, we can add two more brawlers to the list of Nintendo’s rapid-fire fighter.

Super Smash Bros Corrin

The first big reveal was the inclusion of Corrin, the avatar that players will control in the upcoming Fire Emblem Fates. Similar to Robin before, Corrin will be playable in male and female variants. Players can use either the Yato weapon or the Dragon Fang sword, which also enables Corrin’s transformation.

Corrin’s attack includes a side attack that has long reach, which extends to an aerial attack that sees Corrin sprout wings. The B attack, Dragon Fang Shot, momentarily paralyzes opponents and when charged, can hit more than one character at a time. Corrin’s side-B attack, Dragon Lunge, pins opponents down with a downward thrust to create counter moments. Corrin’s Up-B attack, Dragon Ascent, gives great range while the Down-B Counter Surge is a counter move that lets Corrin transform while hitting from both sides equally. Finally, Corrin’s Final Smash is the Torrential Roar, which lets players summon a powerful tornado.

The next character that Nintendo revealed was none other than Bayonetta, from Sega’s same-named action-heavy franchise. Making her first debut in Super Smash Bros., the inclusion of Bayonetta might not be a surprise to most Nintendo fans seeing how Bayonetta 2 was a Nintendo Wii U exclusive and the fact that she won Super Smash Bros. polling vote.

Super Smash Bros Bayonetta

Transitioning into Super Smash Bros., Bayonetta brings plenty of her signature moves into the game, which makes her quite a formidable opponent. Expect plenty of combo-driven attacks when in control of Bayonetta, starting with her signature gun attacks or Bullet Climax, which continually attacks if the B button is held down and can be charged. Her Witch Time is accessible by using Down-B to slow opponents down to prepare for some massive combos.

Bayonetta’s Side-B attack is the heel slide that knocks opponents down with a sliding kick, but changes into After Burner Kick in the air to juggle opponents. Her Up-B attack, called Witch Twist, launches her up in the air and allows for a follow-up attack for a potential triple-jump. Infernal Climax, Bayonetta’s Final Smash, activates her Witch Time across the entire stage and gives her a moment to attack opponents before summoning the demon Gomorrah.

Bayonetta will also come with a new stage, The Umbra Clock Tower, and skins from her original game and the Wii-U exclusive Bayonetta 2. Corrin, on the hand, will come with two new music tracks from the Fire Emblem Fates soundtrack.

While the two characters are slated for a February 2016 release, Cloud Strife is available now for $5.99 for Wii U or 3DS, or fans can pick up both versions for $6.99. Cloud’s arrival to Super Smash Bros. also includes a stage from Midgar and some new outfits for the Mii fighters.

Super Smash Bros Cloud Strife

Amiibo collectors, rejoice! Nintendo also announced that they will be making exclusive Amiibos of all three characters and will hopefully be released soon. Time to make more space for these collectibles!

In the meantime, pick up some Nintendo eShop Card for your preferred currency at OffGamers and grab the Cloud Strife DLC for Super Smash Bros. or any of Nintendo’s awesome game library!
