Resident Evil HD Remastered

Overview

If you’re a fan of the Resident Evil franchise, you can’t forget the first time you played the game more than a decade ago. This franchise is as classic as they come.

Of course when talking about classic games, some game developers use the word classic liberally. Unfortunately for some games, classic means old, and in the world of modern gaming, old is bad.

What can you expect from Resident Evil HD Remastered? Will you hate the franchise for messing up what has been a good thing? Will you love it for bringing back one of the most loved games of all time?

Will you experience the same excitements that you experienced more than 10 years ago or will it get old? Will it mess up your good memories of the game and just wish that the developers didn’t bring it back?

After all, this is simply a remake, although it has been remastered and put in HD.

Will these be enough? This game brings back Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, but now in HD remastered glory. It’s time for you to help them once again escape the mansion. This means dealing with the undead while you try to solve puzzles.

Game Description

The Resident Evil game doesn’t need any introduction if you’ve been gaming since the early 2000s. This is a survival horror game that was developed by Capcom Production Studio 4 and was released in 2002.

Just in case you didn’t know, the 2002 release was actually a remake of the 1996 release. It’s also safe to say that it was a massive improvement from the 96 release and was a critically acclaimed game at that time.

How does it rank among the scariest games of all time? A lot of reviewers ranked it as the scariest, with some of them ranking it as the 2nd scariest. That says a lot especially considering the fact as its graphics were often described as stunning.

The Resident Evil HD Remastered is a remastered version of the 2002 release, and not the 1996 one. Obviously, this is a good thing because the 2002 release (done for the GameCube) is way better than the 1996 one. Just as the name implies, it’s been put in HD.

This excites fans and critics alike as the 2002 release was already one of the most visually stunning games of all time.

You can expect new and better background textures. The widescreen aspect ratio that wasn’t possible back in the early 2000s is now in play for this version so that’s another thing to be excited about.

As far as the gameplay is concerned, you’ll basically play with the same storyline. You’ll deal with the same mystery in the same environments. You’ll also solve the same puzzles that you already solved more than a decade ago.

Pros

Here are the reasons why you should get the Resident Evil HD Remastered:

  • It stays true to the things that made the 2002 release work. It’s a throwback and in a good way. This release makes you remember the game fondly because the things that made it worked more than 10 years ago still make it work today.
  • Since the plot and storyline still works today, even first-time players will enjoy this game.
  • The improvements are more than welcome. The new background textures will make you stare. The light bloom is also awe-inspiring. The fact that the widescreen aspect ratio now comes into play makes it more visually stunning.
  • It’s good to know that more than a decade later, this game remains to be very scary. You’re not going to jump a foot off of your seat anymore, but you’ll still play this game with your breath held while waiting for the zombie dogs to jump through the window to devour you. If you’ll play this franchise for the first time, then you may want to play with the lights on.
  • The exploration part of the game is still top-notch. You’ll explore the same mansion, but that doesn’t affect the fact that exploring through the game creates an amazing experience.

Basically, Resident Evil HD Remastered will flood you with memories of this classic, and not just play with the classic itself with no improvements. After all, playing with an improved version of the classic is usually better than playing the classic itself.

Cons

Here are some cons of the game:

  • There are new controls. Old fans of the game may not appreciate the fact that the controls have been changed.
  • Overall, the graphics look great. However, there are some blurry textures. Some backdrops look weird under light as well. The artworks seem pixelated as well.
  • Just like with past releases, clipping issues remain to be a problem.
  • The fact that you’re basically playing the same game can be a bad thing if you’re not a fan of the franchise in the first place. If you hated some aspects of the game from before, like the limited inventory, then you’ll still hate the same aspects now.

These cons are basically due to the fact that you’re playing the same game. But based on feedback, these are not major issues since this is a well-loved game.

Verdict

If you’re a fan of the franchise, there’s no question that you should get Resident Evil HD Remastered. Simply put, it’s an HD and remastered version.

The same things that made it one of the scariest games of all time are still there. It’s just that they’re made scarier because of the better graphics.

If you’re not a fan of the game in the first place, then you may want to steer clear from this game unless you want to see the better graphics. As a word of warning, you’ll basically play the same game.

What if you haven’t played the game in the past? It’s a must that you get this game. It’s time for you to know why it’s one of the most successful games of all time.
