Rumored 2017 Release For The Next Assassin’s Creed

Seems like gamers might not be getting an Assassin’s Creed release in 2016, if the reports from Kotaku is of any indication. A source reported to Kotaku that the next major Assassin’s Creed title will likely come out in 2017, a change from their yearly releases.

AC Chronicles Russia

The article by Kotaku notes that due to the poor performance and technical issues of Assassin’s Creed: Unity in 2014, Ubisoft has decided to shift focus from churning out another major Assassin’s Creed title in the fall, as they have been doing since 2009’s Assassin’s Creed II, and go into a more traditional development cycle by giving developers more time to polish the next title.

Currently, the rumor is that the next Assassin’s Creed game is projected for a 2017 release with no exact date in mind. Seeing how Ubisoft tends to release the Assassin’s Creed games during the fall, we could be looking at a Fall 2017 window.

Assassin's Creed Revelations

The next game Assassin’s Creed title, codenamed “Empire”, is rumored to be set in Egypt, As for the time period, no details yet are given but gamers can be sure it’ll be set in the distant past. In a response to all the rumors, Ubisoft gave out a statement as follows:

“We can’t comment on rumor or speculation. We’re always happy when players are excited about our games, past, present, and future. In the meantime, we hope that the latest images from the Assassin’s Creed movie set will keep fans of the franchise happy and eager to find out more!”

As per Ubisoft’s statement, if the 2017 release rumor is true, there’s still plenty of Assassin’s Creed goodness that’s coming out in 2016. Starting from the movie to two new Assassin’s Creed Chronicles games that takes place in India and Russia. While there’s no major Assassin’s Creed title release, gamers could still look forward to a major Ubisoft title with the rumored 2016 release for WatchDogs 2.

Hopefully, more information will be available when Ubisoft does its earning reports for the third quarter on February 12th. Until then, check back with OffGamers for more gaming news!
