The Division Open Beta Begins This Weekend

If you weren’t able to be part of the closed beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division a while back, now you can join up and experience the tactical third-person shooter/MMO with the open beta running through the weekend on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

The Division Open Beta Menu

Xbox One users will be able to jump in the open beta earlier on February 18th while Playstation 4 and PC users will have access to the open beta on February 19th. Previously, a closed beta was held on Xbox One, PC, and Playstation 4 for those that preordered the game. While many enjoyed the hybrid MMO/third-person shooter, there was criticism on some parts of The Division, mainly the PVP-centric area, the Dark Zone.

Based on the feedback from the closed beta, the open beta had undergone several bug fixes, introduces another enemy factions, added new skills, and added overall improvements in the multiplayer Dark Zone area.

In the open beta, players will be able to take on a new a mission that introduces the new enemy faction called The Cleaners, former firefighters who are now obsessed with purifying the city of New York by burning everything to the ground. The encounter will be part of a mission where your player will be tasked to find Paul Rhodes, an engineer who will unlock the new tech wing on your Base of Operations.

The Division Open Beta Fire Fight

Aside from this new mission, PVE content remains similar to the closed beta. Most of the changes will probably be felt in The Division‘s cutthroat PVP area, the Dark Zone. For starters, Ubisoft has increased the populations of enemies in the Dark Zone so that the area does not feel sparse. The other big change is a new warning icon that will warn players of Rogue status before they do enough damage to other players.

The Rogue status in The Division was a key point of complaint during the closed beta as friendly fire often occurred too frequently and led to unintentional Rogue status amongst players. This also means that if a player continues to shoot you, you’ll know that he/she is doing that with malevolence.

The Division open beta is available to download now and will run until February 21st. The game is set for launch on March 8th and will come to Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
