The Massacre Begins With Doom’s Closed Alpha Multiplayer

The long-in-development FPS Doom is finally upon us, and to kick off its road towards release, Id Software and Bethesda are prepping up for a closed alpha multiplayer session starting from October 23rd and will last throughout the weekend. Plus, to whet the appetites of players, the developers also released some gameplay footage that alpha testers will experience.

Since it’ll be a closed alpha testing, only a select few will be chosen to test out the multiplayer components of Doom for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PCs. Players need to be aware though that this closed alpha is separate from the beta session promised for those that purchased Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Executive producer Marty Stratton explains that “this isn’t a game demo or even a beta,” in the video. He continues, “This is a limited selection of content and functionality – one map, one mode, one demon, and a handful of weapons and equipment.” Those that are able to be part of the closed alpha multiplayer session will be treated to a classic 6v6 Deathmatch on the Heatwave map, and tinker with the customizable loadouts that includes six weapons and two pieces of equipment.

For those that want to be part of the alpha testing, head over here to check out their FAQ on being part of the testing, which will primarily focus on “a series of development-driven tests designed to stress test the game’s dedicated server infrastructure in a real-world end user environment.” The developer will also draw participants for the alpha from players that redeemed the Doom beta access from the keys included with the Wolfenstein: The New Order. Plus, there will be some chosen from customers that pre-ordered Doom via digital channels, however, neither will ensure a spot in the weekend testing.

Doom is scheduled for a 2016 release and will come to Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Doom alpha testing will kick-off on October 23rd, 12 AM Eastern Time and will last until October 25th, 1159 PM Eastern Time. Currently, the sessions are only available on select locations in Europe and North America for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
