For the majority of World of Warcraft (WoW) players, their WoW game account will be one of their most valued assets. It will be home to all that they have worked for and spent on the game including their characters, items and WoW gold.
Users are able to purchase and create a new or existing WoW game account online either through independent sites or through online gaming retailers such as OffGamers. For a brand new WoW game account, one would most likely either purchase the standard edition pack or CD Key together with the time card. Each WoW game account will have to be renewed on a 30 or 60 day basis, depending on the purchased time card’s duration. This one of the few MMORPG’s available where players are constantly to update their subscription. The upgrade of the WoW game account can also be achieved by purchasing expansion packs which will allow players to progress further into the game.
The worst threat to players is the suspension/banning of their WoW game account. Blizzard will normally monitor each WoW game account for abnormalities or anything which they deem as suspicious. This includes the use of third party programs or the purchase of WoW gold from external sites. As a result, the player’s WoW game account will either be suspended for 24 hours or 72 hours. At worst, the player’s WoW game account will receive a ban which results in a total loss of all characters/items within the WoW game account at the time.
Another threat faced by players is the hacking of their WoW game account. Due to the lucrative value of the average WoW game account, some fellow players will be looking to use the internet as a tool to spread virus’ etc, and obtain confidential information in order to access/hack into a WoW game account. This is one of the reasons why Blizzard decides to suspend/ban accounts which they feel as suspicious. It is also in the player’s best interest to protect their WoW game account against such activities but in the case of purchasing power leveling from third party sources, they will face a similar risk to their WoW game account as Blizzard may note some inconsistencies. All levelers are however aware of such risks and will do all they can to protect the client’s WoW game account.
OffGamers currently sells standard edition CD Keys with play time game cards to create a new WoW game account but the purchase/selling of an existing WoW game account is currently not available. There are however many other sites online which offer the selling or purchase of any existing WoW game account.
