6 Tips and Tricks to Improve your iPhone Gaming Experience

The handheld gaming market has seen a spike because of all the smartphones that have flooded the market. There is something for everyone out there and some of these games are very taxing on the resources of our phones.

While high-end Android phones that were built to be played on perform quite well, the iPhone, despite its many advantages is not known for its gaming capabilities. But this does not mean iPhone users can’t get the most out of their phones. Try out these 6 tips and tricks to maxing out the potential of your iPhone.

Check for Updates

You may think that installing the latest OS might slow down your device, but if your phone is still relatively modern, you should go for it. Some OS updates may actually fix software issues and improve your phone’s processing speed.

To update your phone, first make sure that your phone has sufficient battery and is connected to your Wi-Fi. Then go through Settings > General > Software Update to check whether an update is pending. If there is one, simply tap Download and Install and follow the steps.

Close All Background Apps

Some apps can be very taxing on your phones resources, costing you precious processing speed when gaming that could result in lag. To close your background apps, simply double click the Home button to view all running apps and close all unnecessary apps. Don’t worry, you can turn them back on after you’re done.

Turn Off Automatic App Updates

By default, iOS 7 and above automatically searches for and updates your currently installed apps in the background. While this may be handy for those who often forget to update, it takes up valuable processing capacity, especially if it happens in the middle of a game. To turn off your updates go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then turn off “Updates”.

Restrict Apps from Using the GPS

Surprising as it sounds, Apps that continuously track your location can be a problem for your phones performance. Aside from weather apps or Maps, other apps do not necessarily require location information. Limiting access to this function for some less used apps would greatly improve your performance. To restrict your apps, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services to see the apps that make use of location services.

Turn Down the Graphics

After iOS 7, many visual effects were added to improve your experience. While pretty, it’ll consume valuable processing speed. Turning off these unnecessary visual effects can do a lot for your gaming performance. Head to Settings > General > Accessibility and find and enable the “Reduce Motion” Option.

Clear Your Storage

Freeing up internal storage is an easy way to speed up a slowing smartphone. Every old text message, junk file, and photo you clear could mean the difference between 30 and 60 fps on your phone. Simply go through your files and delete everything you don’t need. You may also consider moving your cherished files to a computer to free up your phone. If you want a thorough purge you may consider downloading an iPhone Cleaner App.

And those were our tips and tricks. Try them out and your phone shouldn’t lag as much while gaming. If these tricks don’t work perhaps you’ll have to consider playing a game with less processing requirements. You can grab those with our iTunes gift cards below:
