Assassin’s Creed Valhalla announced

The next Assassin’s Creed game will be Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. All we’ve got at this point is a nice image courtesy of BossLogic, but the debut trailer will be revealed on April 30, at 8 am PT. Watch the cinematic world premier trailer here:

The setting reveal comes after a year of teases, rumours and alleged leaks, which makes it somewhat funny that Ubisoft still took its time livestreaming BossLogic’s art process, showing the production of the game’s key art in Photoshop for hours before announcing the title.

We were already pretty sure the next Assassin’s Creed would be a Viking romp, and the stream’s musical accompaniment gave off some Viking vibes, but it wasn’t until BossLogic was done that we had the full picture which, as expected, is very Vikingy.

It could also be very big. A tweet from Ubisoft Montreal (embedded above) revealed that 15 studios have worked on the game: Ubisoft Montreal itself plus 14 “co-dev” studios.

The diptych suggests that our time will be divided between the icy north and Europe’s grassier climates—we could go a lot of places, given how far the historical Vikings actually ventured. We can also assume that Viking longships will play a role, as water travel has featured prominently in a few Assassin’s Creed now.
