Far Cry Primal Will Be A Gory Affair With Its M Rating

Far Cry Primal is mere months away from being released to the masses and more details about the game are starting to pop up as we get closer to launch. One of the interesting information that came up recently is the ESRB Rating for the prehistoric action game.

Far Cry Primal Rating M

Far Cry Primal, serving as a bridging gap between Far Cry 4 and Far Cry 5, managed to get an M (Mature) rating from the ESRB  due to the violent gameplays and visuals. Adding to that will be moments in the game where female characters can be seen in a state of undress and scenes that depicts sexual activity, but in non-explicit ways.

Since Far Cry Primal is set during the Stone Ages, it’s not surprising that the game will contain some form of violence, nudity, or sexuality. Ubisoft and Far Cry 4 also tote the line with moments in the game that includes all there of those elements.

To give you an idea of how intense it can be when playing Far Cry Primal, here’s an excerpt from the ESRB’s rating description:

“Players use arrows, spears, and clubs to kill enemies in frenetic combat. Some sequence requires stealth kills in which enemies are stabbed in the head or slashed close-up. One cutscene depicts a character being held in a fire while screaming; another depicts Takkar tapping a hole in another character’s skull as the man screams. Some scenes depict corpses in various states of mutilation: heads and torsos on spikes; ears cut off and kept as trophies; headless bodies lying in pools of blood. Certain scenes or camera angles can depict male genitalia under garments or in shadows; some female characters are depicted topless. A handful of scenes depict characters engaged in sexual activity while clothed; grunts and short moans can be heard though no explicit details are seen.”

While it certainly seems that Far Cry Primal and its lead protagonist, Takkar, is quite vicious against enemies in the game’s world, Creative Director Jean-Christophe Guyot elaborated that there’s reasoning behind the violence in a developer’s blog, stating, “It’s not war, but survival.”

Far Cry Primal Mature Rating

“Throughout the story, we give you good reasons why they’re here and they’re dangerous to you, but we don’t want them to feel like stupid guards.” The enemies are also not one-dimensional moving targets, with Guyot explaining that “they have a life. We try to create a culture and religion for every type of tribe, and at some of the outposts, they’re actually playing music, fishing and doing other tasks.”

Despite being an abridged title between Far Cry 4 and Far Cry 5, Far Cry Primal is shaping up to be an ambitious project from Ubisoft. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out when the game comes out on March 1st, 2016 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
