Get Into The Action With The Division’s Closed Beta

Ubisoft has finally opened the gates to The Division‘s closed beta this weekend. The post-apocalyptic open world third-person shooter will be available for download on January 28th on Xbox One, and January 29th for Playstation 4 and PC.

The Division Beta

The closed beta is scheduled to run throughout the weekend and access to the beta will come to those that pre-ordered the game or have signed up on The Division‘s waitlist. Set in a post-disaster New York, players will be part of the “Division”, a group of elite soldiers tasked to find resources for the surviving people.

The Division take cues from Bungie’s shared-world shooter, Destiny, in that it is an online-always game and mix elements of RPGs, Shooters, and MMO in a single game. While it’s safe to say that there are similarities between the two titles, those that played the Alpha and have early access to the beta seems to indicate that there are more differences in The Division and Destiny than just the third-person perspective.

The closed beta running this weekend will hopefully give players a better sense of what The Division is and how it intends to differ itself from Destiny. If you have played The Division and enjoyed it, Ubisoft has just detailed the Season Pass and future DLCs for the game. The (most likely) $40 Season Pass will include three major expansions in the future.

The expansions are:

- Expansion I: Underground — This first major expansion opens up a new area to players as they explore the uncharted underworld of New York City with up to 4 friends for intense co-op action.

- Expansion II: Survival — In this expansion, players will have to survive as long as possible in a very hostile environment that will challenge even the most talented agents.

- Expansion III: Last Stand — Stay tuned for more information.

Aside from the three major expansion, the Season Pass will also give owners the ability to unlock the Sawed-off Shotgun at launch, exclusive outfits and weapon skins, and access to special monthly benefits including exclusive content drops and special events.

While details on when the expansions will roll out are unconfirmed, Ubisoft did mention that post launch, The Division will enjoy free DLCs and updates which include new game modes, new features and functionality.
