Get Savagely Primordial With Far Cry Primal

On October 5th, Ubisoft streamed footage of cave paintings on their site. The stream then ended with Ubisoft promising an exciting news. Fast-forward to a day later and we’ve got ourselves a new Far Cry release with the “back-to-the-Stone-Age” Far Cry Primal. And it’s coming out on February 23rd, 2016 for consoles, PC a little bit later. Check out the trailer below for some gameplay goodness.

Currently being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Far Cry Primal decided to buck the trend of having futuristic (Call of Duty BO3, Titanfall) or fantastical settings (Destiny, Dying Light) and instead opt for a fresh take with the Stone Age. And based on the trailer that Ubisoft revealed, players can expect plenty of prehistoric action, such as taking down mammoths, fighting Saber-Toothed Tigers, and basically surviving the harsh land of Oros.

Storywise, Far Cry Primal will put players in the shoes (feets?) of Takkar, a hunter whose motivations are fairly simple and straightforward. To “survive in a world where humans are the prey.” Expect plenty of hunting and scavaging for food, weapon craftings, and fending off the aforementioned Saber-Toothed Tiger. .

Of course, that’s not all you need to be aware of in the game. As seen nearing the end of the trailers, players can expect rival tribes attempting to attack or take precious resources from the players. As for how the actual gameplay mechanics will work, we venture it be something similar to Far Cry 4‘s base capturing mechanic.

If you’re looking for more details, a developer diary released by Ubisoft gives us a better look and insight into the world of Far Cry Primal.

One interesting point to note is that, unlike the Far Cry Blood Dragon, Far Cry Primal will be a full-fledged game with a “full-fledged single-player experience.” Meaning, it won’t be a DLC or expansion for Far Cry 4, but a full retail game instead. This comes as great news for Far Cry players who are looking to for content, instead of the bite-sized experience of Far Cry Blood Dragon.

Far Cry Primal is scheduled for release on February 23rd, 2016 for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. It will come to PC on March 2016.
