Here’s A Sneak Peek At AMD’s VR/AR Headset, Sulon Q

AMD is stepping into the virtual reality race with the announcement of its partnership with VR startup Sulon and its headset, the Sulon Q. What makes the Sulon Q stand out amongst it competitor is that it is the “world’s first and only all-in-one, tether-free, ‘wear and play’ headset for VR, AR and spatial computing.”

Sulon Q’s ability to run on its own, tether-free, is based on the specifications that Sulon has included. The Sulon Q will be packing a four-core AMD FX-8800P processor, a Radeon R7 graphics card, 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM and a 2560 x 1440 OLED display with an 110º field of view.

The VR will basically be a Windows 10 PC (albeit a relatively low powered one) that’s wearable and capable of running VR. Given the specifications that AMD has released for the Sulon Q, it won’t be much of a surprise for the price tag to sit within current VR competitors HTC Vive ($799) and Oculus Rift (5699).

AMD is targeting a “late spring” launch with the pricing to be announced soon. For more information, on the Sulon Q, check out their page here.
