Meet The Voice Actors For Fallout 4’s Protagonists

Fallout traditionally allow players to take control of a silent protagonist as the character is usually just an avatar for the players in their adventures. This time around though, Fallout 4 broke the mold by introducing the first ever fully voiced protagonist.

Now, get to know the two voice actors that will provide the dulcet tones for your protagonists journey into the wastelands. The female protagonist will be voiced by Courtenay Taylor while the male protagonist will be voiced by Brian T. Delaney.

Taylor is probably more familiar to gaming fans as she has voiced quite an array of known characters in the gaming world. Some of her credits include Jack from the Mass Effect series; Juhani in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic; Ada Wong on Resident Evil 6; and she has also voiced multiple characters in Fallout: New Vegas.

Delaney on the other hand, is not as known in the video game industry for voice acting. His credit so far only includes Halo 4 as Roland and and a role in the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians. Aside from that, Delaney was credited in providing “Additional Voices” to several video game titles.

The change from silent to fully voiced protagonist was controversial to say the least, but, as lead designer Emil Pagliarulo stated, the inclusion of a fully voiced hero creates a better, more emotional story experience compared to a mute avatar that silently replies to conversations.

Pagliarulo explained, “If you play Fallout 3, you know, Liam Neeson is the voice of your dad, and there are some good emotional beats there, but there’s only so much you can do when you’re clicking on a line of dialog and there’s no spoken response. So the emotional depth that we got by having a voiced protagonist has actually [made the story] way more tense than I ever expected.”

The move from silent protagonist to a fully voiced hero is definitely a trend for modern RPGs nowadays. Games like Dragon Age made that transition from the original Dragon Age to the current DA: Inquisition that features a voiced main protagonist that you can still customize to your preferences.

OffGamers, for one, cannot wait to see how Bethesda will have improved storytelling for Fallout 4. Plus, there’s still plenty do in the wastelands with all the amazing optional gameplay mechanics.

Fallout 4 hits Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 10th, 2015.
