Nexon Claims Lawbreakers Suffered From PUBG Success

LawBreakers publisher Nexon claims that their multi-player shooter from Boss Key Productions suffered from poor reception due to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Eventhough the game received positive response from the gaming community, Lawbreakers has struggled since launch last year.

Nexon’s Representative Director and Chief Financial Officer, Shiro Uemera, said that the company’s sales in North America was below expectation due to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds:

“LawBreakers is a unique FPS developed for core users. We had very high expectations for its launch,” Uemura continued, “however, the timing of its launch turned out to be unfortunate, specifically the blockbuster PC online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds came out right about the same time, making the market environment very tough for first-person shooters in general and for LawBreakers.”

LawBreakers was released in July on PlayStation 4 and PC, which was not long after PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was available on Early Access. For now, Nexon had to absorb the unexpected $32.6 million loss in their expenses, since LawBreakers is not profitable in their books.
