It was a week of competitive eSports as professional DOTA players came together in the 2016 DOTA 2 Internationals, for a chance to win the $20 million prize pool.
In the end, it was China’s Wings Gaming that managed to secure the grand prize of $9.1 million in the finals against America’s Digital Chaos with the new champions securing a decisive win against DC after losing the first game to them.
Despite consisting of DOTA veteran players, DC wasn’t able to maintain momentum past the first the game where Wings Gaming capitalised on the mistakes they made during the matches. Despite suffering a loss at the hands of Wings Gaming, DC still managed to secure a $3.4 million prize as the runner.
Wings Gaming’s win came as a surprise to most in this year’s DOTA 2 Internationals as the four favourites — Team Liquid, EHOME, OG, and Newbee — were kicked out of the competition early,
Instead, teams such as Team TNC from Southeast Asia and China’s Wings Gaming gave stunning performances and stood out in the Internationals with the latter now ranking as No. 1 in the world rankings for DOTA.
